[PHOTOS] UK vs Thailand: Jonathan Haggerty, Rodtang Jitmuangnon fight at ‘ONE: Dawn of Heroes’ in the Philippines

The United Kingdom and Thailand were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” on August 2, 2019. It was the third ONE Championship event in 2019 that took place in the Philippines.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches and two Muay Thai matches, “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the co-main event of the evening, Jonathan “The General” Haggerty, 22, of the U.K. faced “The Iron Man” Rodtang Jitmuangnon, 22, of Thailand.

Including the U.K. and Thailand, 12 countries were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, the United States and Vietnam.

Haggerty was one of the two fighters who represented the U.K. Rodtang was one of the three representatives of Thailand.

Blue Corner

Born in Phatthalung, Thailand on July 23, 1997, Rodtang is training out of Jitmuangnon Gym in Bangkok, Thailand. He has been competing professionally since he was 10 years old.

“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked the Rodtang’s fifth ONE Super Series bout. He was coming out of a knockout victory over Sok Thy, 21, of Cambodia.

Red Corner

Haggerty is training out of Team Underground, Knowlesy Academy and Keddles Gym in London, England, U.K. He has been competing professionally since he was 9 years old.

“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Haggerty’s third ONE Super Series outing. He was coming out of a unanimous decision victory that dethroned then ONE Muaythai Flyweight World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao, 35, of Thailand.

Results

Haggery defended his ONE Muaythai Flyweight World Championship title against Rodtang. Atsushi Onari served as the referee.

After five three-minute rounds, the title bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Onari raised the hand of Rodtang, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” improved the professional Muay Thai record of Rodtang to 257 wins, 41 losses and 10 draws. On the other hand, Haggerty now has 15 wins and 2 losses.
