Vietnam, Australia and Japan were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” on August 2, 2019. It was the third ONE Championship event in 2019 that took place in the Philippines.
Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches and two Muay Thai matches, “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the main event of the evening, Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 30, of Vietnam and Australia faced Koyomi “Moushigo” Matsushima, 26, of Japan.
Including Australia, Vietnam and Japan, 12 countries were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes.” The other countries were Brazil, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Nguyen was one of the two fighters who represented Australia but solely represented Vietnam. Matsushima was one of the six representatives of Japan.
Blue Corner
Matsushima is training out of Pancrase ISM Yokohama in Naka-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan. Born in Yokohama on October 8, 1992, he has been competing professionally since 2015.
“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked the third ONE Championship outing of Matsushima. He was coming out of a unanimous decision victory over “Pretty Boy” Kwon Won Il, 23, of South Korea.
Red Corner
Nguyen is training out of Hardknocks 365 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. He has been competing professionally since 2012.
“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Nguyen’s 13th ONE Championship outing. He was coming out of a knockout victory over Narantungalag “Tungaa” Jadambaa, 43, of Mongolia.
Results
Matsushima challenged Nguyen for the ONE Featherweight World Championship title. Olivier Coste served as the referee.
Coste put a stop to the title bout after 4 minutes and 40 seconds in the second round. Nguyen knocked out Matsushima via ground and pound.
Winning at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” improved the professional MMA record of Nguyen to 13 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Matsushima now has 11 wins and 4 losses.
