[PHOTOS] Philippines vs Australia: Danny Kingad, Reece McLaren fight at ‘ONE: Dawn of Heroes’ in the Philippines

The Philippines and Australia were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” on August 2, 2019. It was the third ONE Championship event in 2019 that took place in the Philippines.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches and two Muay Thai matches, “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the 10th bout of the evening, Danny “The King” Kingad, 23, of the Philippines faced Reece “Lightning” Mclaren, 27, of Australia.

Including the Philippines and Australia, 12 countries were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes.” The other countries were Brazil, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.

Kingad was one of the five hometown heroes on the card. McLaren was one of the two representatives of Australia.

Blue Corner

McLaren is training out of Potential Unlimited Mixed Martial Arts in Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast City, Queensland, Australia. Born on September 17, 1991, he has been competing professionally since 2010.

“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked McLaren’s ninth ONE Championship bout. He was coming out of a unanimous decision victory over Senzo Ikeda, 36, of Japan.

Red Corner

Kingad is training out of Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines. He has been competing professionally since 2014.

“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Kingad’s 10th ONE Championship bout. He was coming out of a unanimous decision loss to former ONE Flyweight World Champion Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhtemov, 31, of Kazakhstan.

Results

Kingad and McLaren competed in a ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix semi-final bout. Yoshinori Umeki served as the referee.

After three five-minute rounds, the flyweight bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Umeki raised hand of Kingad, who was declared the winner via split decision.

Winning at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” improved the professional MMA record of Kingad to 13 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, McLaren now has 12 wins and 7 losses.
