Starring Wang Baoqiang and Liu Haoran, “Detective Chinatown 3” (唐人街探案 3) debuted to RMB 2.56 billion ($398 million), the biggest opening weekend ever in a single territory. It broke the record set by “Endgame” in April 2019 with $357 million.

“Detective Chinatown 3” hit theaters in China on February 12, 2021. It is a comedy-mystery buddy film directed by Chen Sicheng.

Chen co-wrote the screenplay with Wusi Liu, Nomy Xu, Yining Yan, Chun Zhang and Lian Zhou. The story revolves around Tang Ren (Wang) and Qin Feng (Liu), who are invited to Tokyo, Japan to investigate a crime that has occurred there, which leads to a battle between the strongest detectives in Asia.

Joining Chinese actors Zhang Zifeng, Xiao Yang, Shang Yuxian, Cheng Xiao and Chen Zheyuan in the “Detective Chinatown 3” cast are several non-Chinese actors including Tony Jaa of Thailand. These six Japanese actors are also in the cast:
