Smart Communications’ newest commercial ad features “Crash Landing on You” stars Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin. It was released on YouTube on February 14, 2021.
The official theme song of the ad is “Inevitable,” a new single released by Sony Music also on Valentine’s Day. It is a song by Ben&Ben, a Filipino folk-pop outfit with nine members namely lead vocalists and acoustic guitarists Paolo Benjamin Guico and Miguel Benjamin Guico, lead guitarist Poch Barretto, drummer Jam Villanueva, bassist Agnes Reoma, keyboardist Patricia Lasaten, percussionists Andrew de Pano and Toni Muñoz and violinist Keifer Cabugao.
“Many of us are mega fans of the ‘CLOY’ couple so this is definitely a dream collaboration with Smart,” Lasaten shared. “We can’t help but be kilig (smitten) and at the same time wish that our co-fans who would hear the song would also connect it with the evolving story of Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin.”
“It’s also our gift to the fans and to the couple, as well,” Lasaten continued. “We’d like to thank Smart for this amazing opportunity.”
Smart Communications, Inc. is a wholly owned wireless communications and digital services subsidiary of PLDT, Inc., a telecommunications and digital services provider based in the Philippines. The country is home to many fans of Korean drama series like “Crash Landing on You.”
Unlike Ben&Ben’s usual process where the members of the band jam their song a few times before recording the material, “Inevitable” was born out of a shift in production perspective. Barretto said, “With this song however, we decided to record a demo individually then went to record our parts a few days after without knowing how the song would sound like in the end.”
“During the time we were creating the song, one of our bandmates, Toni, was also recovering from a major surgery and had to record her parts from home,” Barretto continued. “Thankfully she was able to send her parts on time with the help of our producer.”
Inspired by recent events surrounding the Ben&Ben members’ lives, “Inevitable” encourages listeners and music fans to live in the moment freely and truthfully without the need to succumb to expectations. It was written by Paolo during a random afternoon run by the beach near the place where the band lives, coming into fruition after a solitary moment spent with nature and the spiritual force above him.
