2 Filipinos competing in Miss USA 2020; Meet Kim Layne, Hannah Jane Curry

Two of the Miss USA 2020 candidates are of Filipino descent. They are Kimberly “Kim” Layne, 26, of Nampa, Idaho, United States and Hannah Jane Curry, 21, of Greenville, South Carolina, USA.

Layne was born in Idaho in 1994 to an Irish father and a Filipino mother. She was a dairy herd health intern at Stewart Farms in Nampa from May 2013 to August 2013.

From September 2016 to November 2016, Layne was an international veterinary student intern at Ecole Nationale de Médecine Vétérinaire in Sidi Thabet, Tunisia. From June 2016 to May 2018, she was a veterinary assistant at the Olde Town Animal Hospital in Southampton, New York, USA.

From 2012 to 2016, Layne attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where she earned her bachelor’s degree in animal sciences. She minored in biomedical sciences and graduated with honors in research.

In 2017, Layne enrolled at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA and at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, USA where she is pursuing a master’s degree in public health and a medical degree in veterinary medicine, respectively. She is expected to graduate in 2021.

The Filipino-Irish-American beauty queen is a trained barre instructor. She is also an aspiring entrepreneur.

Miss USA 2020 is not Layne’s first national beauty pageant. In 2012, she was crowned Miss Idaho Teen USA and was unplaced in Miss Teen USA 2012, which was won by Logan West, 26, of Southington, Connecticut, USA.

 

Curry was born in 1999 to a Filipino father and a Caucasian-Native American mother. Her father was born in the Philippines and moved to the U.S. when he was 6 years old.

Raised in Greenville, Curry attended Eastside High School in Taylors, South Carolina. In 2017, she competed in Miss South Carolina Teen USA and finished in the Top 5.

In 2020, Curry was crowned Miss Greenville USA and Miss South Carolina USA. She is a senior student at Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina where she is majoring in elementary education with an early childhood add-on certification.

 

American Ninja Warrior” commentator Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, 41, and Miss Teen USA 2005 Allie LaForce, 31, will host the Miss USA 2020 coronation night on November 9, 2020 at the Exhibition Centre and the Soundstage at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. “American Idol” Season 10 second runner-up Haley Reinhart, 30, will perform during the ceremony.

Miss USA 1999 Kimberly Pressler, 43, of New York and Miss USA 2000 Lynnette Cole, 42, of Tennessee will serve as judges. They will be joined by businesswoman and hairstylist Carolyn Aronson, 53, Fox Nation journalist and media personality Abby Hornacek, 26, motivational speaker, author and entrepreneur Gloria Mayfield Banks, 64, and businesswoman and social media personality Susan Yara, 39.
