Albay, Philippines’ Ramon Gonzales ready for his 4th ONE Championship win

Ramon “The Bicolano” Gonzales, 33, of Albay, Philippines has been competing in ONE Championship since 2015. The Filipino mixed martial artist currently has three wins in the Singapore-based martial arts promotion and is set to earn his fourth one.

On November 6, 2020, Gonzales will fight Eko Roni Saputra, 28, of Samarinda, Indonesia at “ONE: Inside the Matrix II” in the flyweight division at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.

“ONE: Inside the Matrix II” will feature five MMA matches and one Muay Thai contest. The flyweight MMA contest between Gonzales and Saputra is the second bout of the evening.

A total of 10 countries are represented namely Australia, China, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, the Philippines, South Korea and the United States. Gonzales solely represents the Philippines while Saputra is one of the two representatives of Indonesia.

Currently, Gonzales holds a professional MMA record of 4 wins and 3 losses. Training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore, Saputra has 3 wins and 1 loss.

The Albay native is Saputra’s second Filipino opponent in ONE Championship. The first one was Kaji “Alpha” Ebin of Manila, Philippines, who lost to the Samarinda native on October 25, 2019 at “ONE: Dawn of Valor” at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.

 

Gonzales is a Kyoskushin karate black belt. He became the National Kyokushin karate champion in the Philippines three times.

Born in Matacon, Polangui, Albay, Gonzales started his training in Kyokushin karate in 2002. He won the National Kyokushin karate championship in the Philippines for the first time in 2007.

As an amateur MMA fighter, Gonzales competed in UGB MMA. The firs three ONE Championship opponents he defeated were Deligerhu “The Little Squirrel” Liu of China, Dodi “The Maung” Mardian of Indonesia and Akihiro “Superjap” Fujisawa of Japan.
