Josh “TimeBomb” Tonna, 32, of Australia will challenge reigning ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao, 36, of Thailand at “ONE: Reign of Dynasties.” The latter is the reigning champion in ONE Championship‘s striking-only league ONE Super Series in the strawweight divisions in both kickboxing and strawweight.
Featuring five mixed martial arts matches and one Muay Thai title bout, “ONE: Reign of Dynasties” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on October 9, 2020. The ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship bout between Sam-A and Tonna is the main event of the evening.
“I would first like to thank ONE Championship for the opportunity to compete for the ONE world title,” Tonna said. “It is an honor for me to face such a huge name in Muay Thai, the legendary Sam-A Gaiyanghadao. This is without a doubt the biggest fight of my career.”
“I know I’m heading into this fight as the underdog but I’ve been in this position before,” Tonna continued. “Not many people are giving me a chance to win but I perform the best when people doubt me. I will do everything in my power to walk out of the arena with the ONE world title around my waist.”
On February 28, 2020, Sam-A became the inaugural Muay Thai champion of ONE Super Series in the strawweight division “ONE: King of the Jungle,” which was also a closed-door event held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. He defeated Rocky Ogden, 20, of Australia via unanimous decision.
“I’ve been working hard over the last few months, honing my skills further as the competition intensifies,” Sam-A stated. “Everyone wants a piece of the champion, and there are many great challengers out there. This break has really allowed me to focus on myself and re-energize. I’m ready to get back into the circle and defend my world title.”
“Josh Tonna is a hungry young warrior and I know he will be in the best condition possible for this fight,” Sam-A continued. “I’m coming in with my best, too. For my fans, the pride of Thailand and my team at Evolve MMA, I will beat Tonna and remain champion.”
Eight countries will be represented at “ONE: Reign of Dynasties” namely Australia, China, Finland, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Australia is represented by Tonna and Reece “Lightning” McLaren, 29, while the representatives of Thailand are Sam-A and Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke, 42.
