Thailand and Japan were represented at “ONE: No Surrender 2,” a closed-door, audience-free combat sports event. Only ONE Championship athletes currently in Thailand were included in the fight card due to travel restrictions amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Including Thailand and Japan, seven countries were represented at “ONE: No Surrender 2.” The others were Algeria, China, France, Tunisia and the United Kingdom.
Featuring one kickboxing, two MMA and three Muay Thai fights, “ONE: No Surrender 2” took place in Bangkok on August 14, 2020. In the fourth bout of the evening, Akihiro “Superjap” Fujisawa (藤沢彰博), 40, of Tokyo, Japan and Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit, 24, of Chiang Mai, Thailand in an MMA bout at a catch weight of 59.5kg.
Nick Chapman served as the referee. He put a stop to the catchweight contest after 4 minutes and 53 seconds in the second round when Fujisawa knocked out Mitsatit via punch.
Winning at “ONE: No Surrender 2” improved the professional MMA record of Fujisawa to 6 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Mitsatit now has 10 wins and 6 losses.
Mitsatit joined ONE Championship in 2016 while Fujisawa made his promotional debut in 2018. Both fighters were coming out of a three-bout losing streak and competed in Full Metal Dojo in separate bouts before joining ONE Championship.
A ONE Warrior Series alum training at YORKY Mixed Martial Arts in Bangkok, Fujisawa solely represented Japan at “ONE: No Surrender 2” while Mitsatit, who is training at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand, was one of the six representatives of the host country. The first two opponents the Japanese MMA fighter defeated in ONE Championship were Rockie “God’s Warrior” Bactol, 21, and Kaji “Alpha” Ebin, 28, who are both fighting out of the Philippines.
The main event of “ONE: No Surrender 2” was a ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai Tournament Semifinal bout between Thai fighters Saemapetch Fairtex, 25, and Rodlek PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym, 30. The former won via unanimous decision.
Dom Lau was the announcer at “ONE: No Surrender 2” while Michael Schiavello and Mitch “The Dragon” Chilson were the commentators and the judges were Ian Cartwright of Canada and Rob Cox and Alastair McOnie of the U.K. Watch all the bouts here:
