Hailing from Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, Philippines, Giovanni “The Little Giant” Escaner, 29, is still the the Philippines’ Games and Amusement Board Bantamweight Champion. He successfully defended his title at “Pride of Bohol” on August 31, 2019.
Vladimir Boxing Promotions held “Pride of Bohol,” with seven professional boxing matches, at the Bohol Wisdom School Gymnasium in Tagbilaran, Bohol, Philippines. In the sixth bout of the evening, Renoel “Pael R Singwancha” Pael, 34, of Matalom, Leyte, Philippines challenged Escaner for the Philippines’ GAB Bantamweight Championship title.
Delbert Pelegrino served as the referee of the title bout. After 12 three-minute rounds, the bantamweight contest was left in the hands of the judges namely Oliver Garcia, Tony Pesons and Angelito Piquero.
Both Garcia and Pesons scored the bout 116-112 in favor of Escaner while Piquero scored it 113-115 in favor of Pael. In the end, Pelegrino raised the hand of the Sultan Kudarat native, who was declared the winner via split decision.
Winning at “Pride of Bohol” improved the professional boxing record of Escaner to 20 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Pael now has 23 wins, 10 losses and draw.
Escaner earned the Philippines’ GAB Bantamweight Championship title on December 22, 2018 by defeating Rene Dacquel, 30, of Manabo, Abra, Philippines via corner retirement. The two competed for the then vacant title at the Elorde Sports Center in Parañaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Escaner was born in Lebak on May 23, 1990. He is currently based in Parañaque City.
