Westside MMA’s Michael Walker earns 3rd ONE Super Series win in Singapore

Training out of Westside MMA in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States, Michael Walker, 21, was one of the winners at “Rich Franklin’s ONE Warriors Series” Season 7. It was his third bout in the ONE Championship subsidiary headed by mixed martial arts veteran Rich “Ace” Franklin, 44, of the U.S.

ONE Championship held “ONE Warrior Series 7” in Singapore on August 6, 2019 featuring one Muay Thai contest and 14 professional MMA matches. In the eighth bout of the evening, Walker competed in an MMA match at a catch weight of 68 kg against Akuri Ronda, 30, who trains out of  Shingikan MMA in Zama, Kanegawa, Japan.

After three five-minute rounds the catchweight bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, the referee raised the hand of Walker, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE Warrior Series 7” improved the professional MMA record of Walker to 3 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Ronda now has 5 wins, 3 losses and 1 win.

“ONE Warrior Series 7” marked Walker’s third ONE Warrior Series win. It was a redemptive win for the Westside MMA product who was coming out of consecutive losses to “The Lion” Lee Hyun Jin, 32, of South Korea and Zechariah “Earth Man” Lange, 30, of the U.S.

When Walker made his ONE Warrior Series debut at “ONE Warrior Series 1” on March 31, 2019, he defeated Michael “The Foot Collector” Fangki, 28, of the Philippines via decision. On July 19, 2018, the American fighter submitted Shafkat Khodzhakulov, 26, of Tajikistan via ear-naked choke in the first round.

Including the U.S. and Japan, 16 countries were represented at “ONE Warrior Series 7.” The others were Australia, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Northern Ireland, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

The U.S. was represented by two fighters namely Walker and Lange. Japan was also represented by two fighters namely Ronda and Koji “Animal” Shikuwa, 28, of Japan.
