The United States and Japan were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” on August 2, 2019. It was the third ONE Championship event in 2019 that took place in the Philippines.
Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches and two Muay Thai matches, “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the fifth bout of the evening, James Nakashima, 30, of the U.S. faced Yushina “Thunder” Okami, 38, of Japan.
Including the U.S. and Japan, 12 countries were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Vietnam.
Nakashima was one of the three fighters who represented the U.S. Okami was one of the six representatives of Japan.
Blue Corner
Okami is training out of EX Fight. Born in Kanagawa, Japan on July 21, 1981, he has been competing professionally since 2002.
“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Okami’s second ONE Championship outing. He was coming out of a knockout loss to Kiamrian “Brazen” Abbasov, 26, of Russia.
Red Corner
Nakashima is training out of MMA Lab in Glendale, Arizona, USA. He has been competing professionally since 2015.
“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Nakashima’s third ONE Championship outing. He was coming out of a knockout victory against Luis “Sapo” Santos, 39, of Brazil.
Results
Nakashima and Okami competed in an MMA match in the welterweight division. Olivier Coste served as the referee.
After three five-minute rounds, the welterweight contest was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Coste raised the hand of Nakashima, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Still undefeated, Nakashima improved his professional MMA record to 12 wins and 0 loss after winning at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes.” On the other hand, Okami now has 35 wins and 14 losses.
