[PHOTOS] Philippines vs Japan: Geje Eustaquio, Yuya Wakamatsu fight at ‘ONE: Dawn of Heroes’ in the Philippines

The Philippines and Japan were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” on August 2, 2019. It was the third ONE Championship event in 2019 that took place in the Philippines.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches and two Muay Thai matches, “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the eighth bout of the evening, Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 30, of the Philippines faced Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu, 24, of Japan.

Including the Philippines and Japan, 12 countries were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.

Eustaquio was one of the five hometown heroes on the card. Wakamatsu was one of the six representatives of Japan.

Blue Corner

Wakamatsu is training out of Tribe Tokyo MMA in Tokyo, Japan. Born in Nerima, Tokyo on February 9, 1995, He has been competing professionally since 2015.

“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Wakamatsu’s third ONE Championship bout. He was coming out of a guillotine choke submission loss to Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, 32, of the U.S.

Red Corner

Eustaquio is training out of Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines. Competing professionally since 2011, he is a former ONE Flyweight World Champion.

“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Eustaquio’s 16th ONE Championship bout. He was coming out of a unanimous decision victory over Kyu Sung Kim, 26, of South Korea.

Results

Eustaquio and Wakamatsu competed in an MMA match in a ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix reserve bout. Kemp Cheng served as the referee.

Cheng put a stop to the flyweight contest after 1 minute and 59 seconds in the first round. Wakamatsu knocked out Eustaquio via punches.

Winning at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” improved the professional MMA record of Wakamatsu to 11 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Eustaquio now has 12 wins and 8 losses.
