The Philippines and China were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” on August 2, 2019. It was the third ONE Championship event in 2019 that took place in the Philippines.
Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches and two Muay Thai matches, “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the fourth bout of the evening, Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 35, of the Philippines faced “The Stalker” Xie Bin, 21, of China.
Including the Philippines and China, 12 countries were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.
Kelly was one of the five hometown heroes on the card. Xie was one of the two representatives of China.
Xie is training out of Tianjin Top Team. A Hunan Sports College alum, he made his professional MMA debut in 2016.
“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Xie’s ninth ONE Championship outing. He was coming out of a D’Arce Choke submission win over “Lycan” Ahmad Qais Jasoor, 29, of Afghanistan.
Kelly is training out of Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines. Born on June 16, 1996, he made his professional MMA debut in 2014 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked Kelly’s 14th ONE Championship outing. He was coming out of a knockout victory over Sung Jong Lee, 33, of South Korea.
Kelly and Xie competed in an MMA match in the featherweight division. Kemp Cheng served as the referee.
The bout unexpectedly before the end of second round when Kelly was deemed unable to continue due to an accidental injury. In the end, Cheng raised the hand of Xie who was awarded a unanimous technical decision victory.
Winning at “ONE: Dawn of Heroes” improved the professional MMA record of Xie to 8 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Kelly now has 12 wins and 7 losses.
