Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao, 40, of the Philippines broke the undefeated record of Keith “One Time” Thurman, 30, of the United States on July 20, 2019 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The two battled it out for the World Boxing Association Welterweight Championship title unification in the main event of at “Welterweight Supremacy.”
Pacquiao stands 5′5½″ and has a 170 cm reach while Thurman stands 5′ 7½″ and has a 175 cm reach. They both weighed in at 146.5 lbs during the official “Welterweight Supremacy” weigh-ins at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino on July 19, 2019.
Entered the ring as the WBA Regular World Welterweight Champion, Pacquiao earned his 62nd professional boxing victory at “Welterweight Supremacy.” His American opponent was the WBA Super World Welterweight Champion.
In the main event, of “Welterweight Supremacy” Pacquiao and Thurman competed for the unified WBA Welterweight Championship title. Kenny Bayless as the referee while Jose Oliver Gomez served as the supervisor of the bout.
After 12 rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges namely Dave Moretti, Glenn Feldman and Leslie Cheatham. Both Moretti and Cheatham scored the bout 115-112 in favor of Pacquiao while Feldman scored in 113-114 in favor of Thurman.
In the end, Bayless raised the hand of Pacquiao, who was declared the winner via split decision. The Filipino boxer improved his professional boxing record to 62 wins, 7 losses and 2 draws while Thurman now has 29 wins and 1 loss.
Aside from Pacquiao, three other Filipino boxers competed on the undercard of “Welterweight Supremacy” namely John Leo “The Lion” Dato, 26, Genisis “Cobra” Lagumbay Libranza, 25, and Jay-ar “Hitman” Inson, 28. Both Libranza and Inson are from Davao City, Davao del Sur, Philippines while Dato is from Bangar, La Union, Philippines.
Libranza knocked out Carlos “Mighty” Maldonado, 28, of Los Angeles, California, USA in the flyweight division and Dato knocked out Juan Antonio “The Wolf” Lopez, 25, of Dallas, Texas, USA in the featherweight division. Inson was knocked out by Sergey “Samurai” Lipinets, 30, of Russia in the welterweight division.
