[PHOTOS] Japan vs Philippines: Itsuki Hirata, Angelie Sabanal fight at ‘ONE: Legendary Quest’ in Shanghai, China

Japan and the Philippines were among the 15 countries represented at “ONE: Legendary Quest.” On the card were both mixed martial arts matches and ONE Super Series contests, featuring both kickboxing and Muay Thai.

ONE Championship held “ONE: Legendary Quest” at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China on June 15, 2019. The second bout of the evening was between Itsuki “Strong Heart Fighter” Hirata, 18, of Tokyo, Japan and Angelie Sabanal, 29, of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines.

Hirata was one of the three athletes who represented Japan at “ONE: Legendary Quest” while Sabanal was one of the three representatives of the Philippines. Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Scotland, South Korea, Thailand and the United Kingdom were also represented.

On June 12, 2019, Hirata and Sabanal had their official face-off during the press conference at Yunspace in Shanghai. The event was graced by ONE Championship Greater China chairman Hua Fung Teh and reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 31, of China.

Sabanal trains out of Mindanao Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts in Cagayan de Oro. “ONE: Legendary Quest” marked her third ONE Championship outing.

When Sabanal made her ONE Championship debut on March 24, 2018, she defeated Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige, 30, of Bangkok, Thailand via unanimous decision. On November 17, 2018, the Filipino fighter lost to Priscilla “Thathi” Hertati Lumban Gaol, 31, of Jakarta, Indonesia via unanimous decision.

Red Corner

Training out of K-Clann in Katsushika-ku, Tokyo, Hirata made her ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Legendary Quest.” It was her fourth bout as a professional MMA fighter.

Born on August 24, 1999 in Tokyo, Hirata made her professional MMA debut in 2018. She won three consecutive bouts at “Fighting Agent War” Season 3.

Fight Result

Hirata and Sabanal competed in an MMA match in the women’s atomweight division. Kemp Cheng served as the referee.

Cheng put a stop to the atomweight contest after 2 minutes and 59 seconds in the first round. Hirata submitted Sabanal via Americana.

Winning at “ONE: Legendary Quest” improved the professional MMA record of Hirata to 4 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, Sabanal now has 1 win and 2 losses.

“ONE: Legendary Quest” Main Events

Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 23, of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia faced ONE Championship debutante Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama, 43, of Osaka, Japan in an MMA match in the welterweight division. The Malaysian contender won via unanimous decision.

ONE Super Series debutante Alma Juniku, 18, of Australia challenged reigning ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Stamp Fairtex, 27, of Thailand in the main event. The Thai defending champion won via unanimous decision.
