Team Bahrain at Asian MMA Games
His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain has once again proved his commitment to the sport of mixed martial arts on a global level. Founder of Brave Combat Federation, the fastest-growing MMA promotion in the world, Sheikh Khalid has landed in Thailand to support his fellow Bahraini fighters at the 2nd Asian Amateur MMA Championship, organized by the IMMAF (International MMA Federation), which takes place between May 2nd and May 4th.
His Highness Sheikh Khalid, who’s also the President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, was greeted by the Bahraini diplomatic mission in Thailand and stressed that the Bahraini participation in the event comes as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to bolster its ties and collaboration with the IMMAF. The intention is to develop the sport at a continental level, adding that Bahrain has taken several steps to ensure the spread of this sport around the world.
“We have drawn up a strategy for our sport to allow it to conquer international arenas. It has proved successful to this point by allowing our national fighters to compete in international and continental events to upgrade their capabilities and abilities.”
His Highness also highlighted the pivotal role played by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the extraordinary efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in promoting mixed martial arts and supporting the Bahraini national team to achieve relevant results on a global scale.
It’s worth noting that Bahrain has raised its level in the continental and global scene at a grassroots level, attaining medals in international amateur competition and becoming a force to be reckoned with at all levels. For this year’s Asian Championship, the Kingdom of Bahrain will have 16 representatives out of 79 competitors across all weight classes.
