The Philippines was among the six countries represented at “URCC Global: Raw Fury.” Hosted by Boyet Sison, it was the first event of the Philippines-based mixed martial arts promotion URCC Global in 2019.
Featuring 10 MMA matches, which included five title bouts, “URCC Global: Raw Fury” took place at The Cove at Okada Manila in Parañaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 27, 2019. The third bout of the evening was between Filipino fighters Danilo “Delubyo” Sarmiento Jr., 25, and Mark “The Ruthless” Alcoba, 27.
Originally, Sarmiento was set to fight Shaqueme Rock, 25, of Malaysia and the United Kingdom. The latter had to pull from the card due to visa issues and was replaced by Alcoba.
Including Sarmiento and Alcoba, 17 hometown heroes competed at “URCC Global: Raw Fury.” The other countries represented were China, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland and the United States.
Sarmiento has been competing professionally since 2015. Training out of Tribal Submission Philippines in Baguio City, Philippines, he made his URCC Global debut at “URCC Global: Raw Fury.”
Hailing from Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines, Alcoba is training out of Conqueror’s GYM FIGHT CAMP in Las Piñas, Metro Manila, Philippines. He has been competing professionally since 2015 and “URCC Global: Raw Fury” marked his second URCC Global bout.
Sarmiento and Alcoba competed in the featherweight division. JR Rulloda served as the referee.
After three five-minute rounds, the featherweight contest was left in the hands of the judges Jaime Sin, Chad Aquino and Vernie Lumibao. Sin scored it 29-28 in favor of Sarmiento while both Aquino and Lumibao scored it 29-28 in favor of Alcoba.
In the end, Rulloda raised the hand of Alcoba, who was declared the winner via split decision. This made the Zamboanga del Sur native the first fighter to defeat the Tribal Submission Philippines athlete in a professional MMA bout.
Winning at “URCC Global: Raw Fury” improved the professional MMA record of Alcoba to 7 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Sarmiento now has 3 wins and 1 loss.
“URCC Global: Raw Fury” Main Events
Shunichi “Rolling Star” Shimizu, 34, of Kuchinoerabu, Japan challenged reigning URCC Global Featherweight Champion Mark “Mugen” Striegl, 30, of Baguio City, Philippines in the co-main event. It ended in a No Contest due to an accidental low blow from Striegl, who is still the reigning champion.
Musa Conteh, 32, of Atlanta, Georgia, United States challenged two-division champion Chris Hofmann, 29, of the Philippines and Switzerland for the URCC Global Middleweight Championship title in the main event. The Filipino-Swiss defending champion knocked out his American challenger.
