[PHOTOS] Thailand vs Serbia: Saemapetch Fairtex, Ognjen Topic fight at ‘ONE: Roots of Honor’ in the Philippines

Thailand and Serbia were among the 18 countries represented at “ONE: Roots of Honor.” It was the second ONE Championship event in 2019 held in the Philippines.

Featuring two kickboxing contests, two Muay Thai bouts and 11 mixed martial arts matches, “ONE: Roots of Honor” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 12, 2019. In the fifth bout of the evening, Saemapetch Fairtex, 24, of Thailand faced Ognjen Topic, 33, of Serbia and the United States.

Blue Corner

Topic is a three-time Muay Thai World Champion and two-time national champion. Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina on February 1, 1986, he was 6 years old when he and his family moved to Serbia because of the Bosnian War and when he was 9 years old, they moved to the U.S.

A resident of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, USA, Topic earned his Fine Arts degree from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. He is training out of North Jersey Muay Thai and P.K. Saenchai Muay Thai Gym and “ONE: Roots of Honor” marked his third ONE Super Series outing.

Red Corner

Saemapetch has been competing since he was 11 years old and he went on to become the MTGP Welterweight World Champion. A Fairtex athlete, he made his ONE Super Series debut on July 7, 2018 at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens” at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China where he defeated Deividas “The Savage Sitsongpeenong” Danyla, 26, of Lithuania.

On November 23, 2018, Saemapetch defeated Alaverdi “Dagger” Ramazanov, 23, of Russia at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. “ONE: Roots of Honor” marked the Thai martial artist’s third ONE Super Series bout.

Fight Result

Saemapetch and Topic competed in a Muay Thai match in the bantamweight division. Elias Dolaptsis served as the referee.

After three three-minute rounds, the bantamweight bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Dolaptsis raised the hand of Saemapetch, who was declared the winner via majority decision.

Winning “ONE: Roots of Honor” improved Saemapetch’s professional Muay Thai record to 120 wins, 15 losses and 1 draw. On the other hand, Topic now has 33 wins, 22 losses and 2 draws.

“ONE: Roots of Honor” Main Events

In the co-main event, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 23, of the Philippines challenged reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Yosuke “The Ninja” Saruta, 31, of Japan in a rematch. The Filipino challenger knocked out the Japanese defending champion in the fourth round.

In the main event, reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam defended his belt against former champion Narantungalag “Tungaa” Jadambaa, 43, of Mongolia. The Vietnamese-Australian defending champion knocked out the Mongolian challenger in the second round.

Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, China, Cuba, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Morocco, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam and the United States were also represented at “ONE: Roots of Honor.” Check the complete results on Conan Daily.
