South Korea and India were among the 19 countries represented at “ONE: A New Era” at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on March 31, 2019. It was the first ever ONE Championship event to take place in the country.
“ONE: A New Era” featured 11 mixed martial arts bouts and four ONE Super Series matches, which include two kickboxing contests and two Muay Thai contests. In the first bout of the evening, “The Big Heart” Yoon Chang Min, 24, of South Korea faced Bala “The Tulunad Warrior” Shetty, 36, of India.
Blue Corner
When Yoon was in high school, he trained in kickboxing. Currently, he is training under the tutelage of Team MAD head coach Yang Sung Hoon.
An amateur boxing champion, Yoon made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: A New Era.” It was his second professional MMA bout.
Red Corner
Shetty graduated from university as a black belt in both karate and judo. An eight-time Indian National Champion in Muay Thai, he is training out of Total Combat Fitness.
“ONE: A New Era” marked Shetty’s third ONE Championship bout. Both of his first two bouts in the promotion ended in technical knockout via punches.
Fight Result
Yoon and Shetty competed in an MMA match in the lightweight division. Yoshinori Umeki served as the referee.
Umeki put a stop to the contest after 4 minutes and 16 seconds in the first round. Yoon submitted Shetty via rear-naked choke.
Winning at “ONE: A New Era” improved Yoon’s professional MMA record to 1 win and 1 loss. On the other hand, Shetty now has 0 win and 3 losses.
“ONE: A New Era” Main Event
In the main event, Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan challenged reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, of the Philippines in a rematch.
