[PHOTOS] Japan vs Philippines: Senzo Ikeda, Danny Kingad fight at ‘ONE: A New Era’ in Tokyo

Japan and the Philippines were among the 19 countries represented at “ONE: A New Era” at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on March 31, 2019. It was the first ever ONE Championship event to take place in the country.

“ONE: A New Era” featured 11 mixed martial arts bouts and four ONE Super Series matches, which include two kickboxing contests and two Muay Thai contests. In the eighth bout of the evening, Senzo Ikeda, 36, of Japan faced Danny “The King” Kingad, 23, of the Philippines.

Ikeda was one of the six fighters from Japan on the “ONE: A New Era” card. Kingad was one of the three representatives of the Philippines.

Kingad is training out of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines. He was riding a four-bout winning streak.

“ONE: A New Era” marked Kingad’s ninth ONE Championship outing. The only opponent he failed to beat in the promotion is reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, 29, of Brazil.

Ikeda is a former Pancrase Flyweight World Champion. He is training out of The Paraestra Matsudo.

“ONE: A New Era” marked Ikeda’s ONE Championship debut. Most of his previous bouts are in Pancrase.

Fight Result

Ikeda and Kingad competed in the quarter-finals of ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix. Kemp Cheng served as the referee.

After three five-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Cheng raised the hand of Kingad, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: A New Era” improved Kingad’s professional MMA record to 12 wins and 1 draw. On the other hand, Ikeda now has 12 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw.

“ONE: A New Era” Main Event 

In the main event, Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan challenged reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, of the Philippines in a rematch.


Australia, Brazil, China, Cyprus, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and the United States were also represented at “ONE: A New Era.” Check all the official results on Conan Daily.
