[PHOTOS] China vs Guam: Chen Rui, Roman Alvarez fight at ‘ONE: Reign of Valor’ in Yangon, Myanmar

China and Guam were two of the 21 countries represented at “ONE: Reign of Valor,” the first ONE Championship event in 2019 held in Myanmar. The Singapore-based mixed martial arts promotion held it at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on March 8, 2019.

“ONE: Reign of Valor” featured nine MMA matches and five ONE Super Series contests, which are kickboxing bouts. In the fourth bout of the evening, “The Ghost” Chen Rui, 22, of China faced Roman “Boom” Alvarez, 24, of Guam.

Chen was one of the two fighters who represented China t “ONE: Reign of Valor.” Alvarez was the sole representative of Guam.

Blue Corner

Chen started his MMA training in 2015 and started competing professionally in the same year. In 2016, he claimed the ONE Jakarta Bantamweight Tournament Championship title at “ONE: Titles and Titans” in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Chinese fighter entered the cage at “ONE: Reign of Valor” as an undefeated fighter. He previously competed in Rebel Fighting Championship.

Red Corner

Born and raised in Guam, Alvarez made his professional debut in 2008. He went on to become the Trench Warz Featherweight Champion.

When Alvarez made his ONE Championship debut on June 29, 2018 at “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior” at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium, he was submitted by Leandro “Brodinho” Issa, 35, of Brazil. “ONE: Reign of Valor” marked the Guamanian fighter’s second bout in the promotion.

Fight Result

Chen and Alvarez competed in an MMA match in the bantamweight division. Kemp Cheng served as the referee of the contest.

Cheng put a stop to the bout after 2 minutes and 48 seconds. Chen knocked out Alvarez.

Winning at “ONE: Reign of Valor” improved Chen’s professional MMA record to 7 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, Alvarez now has 8 wins and 3 losses.

“ONE: Reign of Valor” Main Events

Phoe “Bushido” Thaw, 34, of Myanmar faced “The Iceman” Yohan Mulia Legowo, 38, of Indonesia in the co-main event. The Burmese contender knocked out his Indonesian opponent in the second round.

Georgiy “Knight” Kichigin, 28, of Kazakhstan challenged reigning ONE Welterweight World Champion Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 28, of Sweden in the main event. After two five-minute rounds, the Swedish defending champion won via technical knockout via retirement.

Australia, Cambodia, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Morocco, Myanmar, the Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Thailand and the United Kingdom were also represented at “ONE: Reign of Valor.” Check the complete results on Conan Daily.
