The Philippines and Brazil were among the 14 countries represented at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent.” It is the second ONE Championship event in 2019.

Featuring one kickboxing contest, four Muay Thai matches and nine mixed martial arts bouts, “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

In the main event, Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, 30, of Brazil challenged reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 29, of the Philippines. The Brazilian challenger is the former champion and it was the third time the two competed inside the ONE Championship cage.

Blue Corner

Moraes was the first MMA fighter to hold the ONE Flyweight World Champion title. He is training out of American Top Team and Constrictor Team.

The Brazilian fighter defeated Eustaquio during their first encounter, winning by second-round guillotine choke. The Brazilian fighter held the ONE Flyweight World Championship from September 12, 2014 to November 21, 2015.

Red Corner

Training out of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines, Eustaquio worked his way back up the ranks to secure a rematch with Moraes four years after their first bout. The Filipino fighter picked up the ONE Interim Flyweight World Title with a victory over Kairat Akhmetov in January 2018, which set up the title unification bout with Moraes.

In the highly anticipated rematch, Eustaquio and Moraes figured in a tremendous five-round battle but it was “Gravity” who claimed a split decision victory and the undisputed championship. Now, they face off one more time in a rubber match to determine the rightful owner of the ONE Flyweight World Title.

Fight Result

Olivier Coste served as the referee of the championship bout between Eustaquio and Moraes. After five rounds, the championship bout was left in the hands of the judges.

In the end, Coste raised the hand of Moraes. The Brazilian challenger was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Losing to Moraes at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” downgraded Eustaquio’s professional MMA record to 11 wins and 7 losses. On the other hand, the reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion now has 18 wins and 3 losses.
