[PHOTOS] Algeria vs Japan: Elias Mahmoudi, Yukinori Ogasawara fight at ‘ONE: Hero’s Ascent’ in the Philippines

Algeria and Japan were among the 14 countries represented at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent.” It is the second ONE Championship event in 2019.

Featuring one kickboxing contest, four Muay Thai matches and nine mixed martial arts bouts, “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the fourth bout of the evening, Elias “The Sniper” Mahmoudi, 21, of Algeria faced Yukinori Ogasawara, 26, of Japan.

Blue Corner

Ogasawara is a World Boxing Council Japan Super Bantamweight Muay Thai Champion. Training out of Crosspoint Kichijoji, he won once and lost once in ONE Super Series prior to “ONE: Hero’s Ascent.”

Red Corner

Mahmoudi is a World Professional MuayThai Federation World Champion. Training out of Mahmoudi Gym, the Algerian martial artist made his ONE Super Series debut at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent.”

Fight Result

Mahmoudi faced Ogasawara in a Muay Thai bout in the flyweight division. Atsushi Onari served as the referee.

After three three-minute rounds, the Muay Thai bout was left in the hands of the judges. Onari raised the hand of Mahmoudi, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” improved Mahmoudi’s professional Muay Thai record to 30 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Ogasawara now has 15 wins, 6 losses and 4 draws.

“ONE: Hero’s Ascent” Main Events

In the co-main event, Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 29, of Benguet, Philippines and Lowen Tynanes, 28, of Hawaii, United States competed in the first bout of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix quarter-finals. The Hawaiian fighter knocked out his Filipino opponent in the first round.

In the main event, Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, 30, of Brazil challenged reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 29, of the Philippines. The challenger dethroned the defending champion via unanimous decision.

Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherlands, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and the United States were also represented at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent.” Check the complete results here.
