Japan and Brazil were among the 16 countries represented at “ONE: Destiny of Champions” on December 7, 2018. The fight card featured seven mixed martial arts matches and four Muay Thai contests.
ONE Championship held “ONE: Destiny of Champions” at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the sixth bout of the evening, Yosuke “Tobizaru” Saruta (猿田洋祐), 31, of Saitama, Japan faced former ONE Strawweight World Champion Alex “Little Rock” Silva, 36, of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Blue Corner
Silva held the ONE Strawweight World Championship title from December 9, 2017 to May 12, 2018. He is training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore.
Born in Brazil on November 10, 1982, Silva has been competing professionally since 2011. “ONE: Destiny of Champions” marked the Brazilian fighter’s ninth bout in ONE Championship.
Red Corner
Saruta was born in Kawaguchi City, Saitama on July 8, 1987. Training out of Wajutsu Keishukai HEARTS in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, he is a former Shooto Strawweight World Champion.
The Kawaguchi City native made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Destiny of Champions,” which marked his 28th bout as a professional MMA fighter. He has been competing professionally since 2008.
Fight Result
Silva and Saruta competed in an MMA bout in the strawweight division. Olivier Coste served as the referee.
After three five-minute rounds, the strawweight bout between Silva and Saruta was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Coste raised the hand of the Japanese contender, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “ONE: Destiny of Champions” improved Saruta’s professional MMA record to 18 wins, 8 losses and 3 draws. On the other hand, Silva now has 7 wins and 3 losses.
“ONE: Destiny of Champions” Main Events
In the co-main event of the evening, Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 23, of Malaysia and Kiamrian Abbasov, 25, of Kyrgyzstan competed in an MMA match in the welterweight division. The Kyrgyzstani contender submitted his Malaysian opponent via rear-naked choke in the first round.
In the main event, Yodsanklai “The Hero” IWE Fairtex, 32, of Thailand took on Luis “Macaco” Regis, 33, of Australia in a ONE Super Series Muay Thai contest. The Thai contender knocked out is Australian opponent in the first round.
Australia, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Greece, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Ukraine, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States were also represented at “ONE: Destiny of Champions.” Check the complete results on Conan Daily.
