Two title bouts were on the card of “ONE: Conquest of Champions,” which took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on November 23, 2018. In the main event, Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli, 35, of Terracina, Latina, Italy challenged reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera, 41, of Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Blue Corner
Challenging Vera in the “ONE: Conquest of Champions” main event, Cerilli made his ONE Championship debut. He was the Cage Warriors Heavyweight Champion before joining ONE Championship.
Cerilli is a certified finisher and is known for his knockout power and submission skills. Prior to “ONE: Conquest of Champions,” he won five bouts consecutively, four of which ended with emphatic knockouts.
The Italian heavyweight has been competing professionally since 2012. He also previously competed in Magnum Fighting Championship and Venator Fighting Championship, among others.
Red Corner
Vera is a mixed martial arts veteran who is of Filipino and American descent. After competing for over a decade as one of the world’s best martial arts talents, he joined ONE Championship on December 5, 2014.
A devastating striker, Vera is known for his thunderous leg kicks as well as his well-rounded skills. He captured the ONE Heavyweight World Championship with a stunning knockout victory over Paul “Tyhpoon” Cheng, 40, of Taiwan on December 11, 2015.
The most recent bout of Vera prior to “ONE: Conquest of Champions” took place on December 2, 2016. He successfully defended his title from Hideki “Shrek” Sekine, 45, of Japan.
Fight Result
Referee Olivier Coste put a stop to the heavyweight world championship bout between Vera and Cerilli after 1 minute and 4 seconds in the first round. The Filipino-American defending champion knocked out his Italian challenger.
Winning at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” improved Vera’s professional MMA record to 16 wins, 7 losses and 1 No Contest. On the other hand, Cerilli now has 12 wins and 3 losses.
“ONE: Conquest of Champions” Co-Main Event
In the co-main event of the evening, Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, of Baguio City, Philippines and Amir Khan, 23, of Singapore competed for the vacant ONE Lightweight World Championship. After five five-minute rounds, the Filipino contender won via unanimous decision.
