Ifugao’s Kevin Belingon is first MMA fighter to defeat Bibiano Fernandes in ONE Championship

For the firs time, Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil lost inside the ONE Championship cage. The culprit is Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 31, of Kiangan, Ifugao, Philippines.

Fernandes has been competing in ONE Championship since 2012. He defeated 10 opponents in the promotion, which include Belingon.

In 2012, Fernandes defeated Gustavo Falciroli via unanimous decision. In 2013, Koetsu Okazaki and Soo Chul Kim lost to Fernandes also both via unanimous decision.

In 2014, Fernandes defeated Masakatsu Ueda via unanimous decision and Dae Hwan Kim via rear-naked submission. In 2015, Toni Tauru lost to Fernandes via knockout.

In 2016, Belingon challenged Fernandes for the first time. Representing Team Lakay, which is based in Baguio City, Philippines, the Filipino challenger was unsuccessful as he was submitted by the defending champion  via kimura.

Also in 2016, Reece McLaren lost to Fernandes via split decision. In 2017, the latter submitted Andrew Leone via rear-naked choke.

Both Fernandes and Belingon defeated Martin Nguyen in the bantamweight division in 2018. The reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion lost to Fernandes via split decision then to Belingon via unanimous decision.

On November 9, 2018, the rematch between Fernandes and Belingon was the main event of  “ONE: Heart of the Lion,” which took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on November 9, 2018. Belingon, the challenger, was the ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion, while Fernandes, the defending champion, was the ONE Bantamweight World Champion.

After five five-minute rounds, the title unification bout between Belingon and Fernandes was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, referee Olivier Coste raised the hand of the Filipino challenger as the winner via split decision.

Still, Fernandes holds the record of the most title defenses in ONE Championship. From October 18, 2013 to November 9, 2018, he held the ONE Bantamweight World Championship title, which he successfully defended seven times before losing to Belingon.
