The Philippines and Japan were represented at the ONE Championship event “ONE: Warrior’s Dream,” which took place on November 17, 2018 at the Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia. The fight card featured three ONE Super Series striking contests and 11 mixed martial arts matches.
In the fifth bout of the evening, Eugene Toquero, 37, of Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines faced Tatsumitsu “The Sweeper” Wada, 29, of Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan. They competed in the flyweight division.
Blue Corner
Wada was a DEEP Flyweight Champion. Originally from Yamanashi, he moved to Tokyo after high school to further his martial arts career.
Originally, Wada started his training with karate and later added judo to his growing skill set. He has gone on an incredible run in his career thus far and twice captured the flyweight belt in DEEP.
Red Corner
Toquero is a former celebrity martial arts and fitness coach. He offers solid striking skills combined with sufficient grappling knowledge to put together a unique style that can end bouts instantly.
The Filipino stalwart has a knack for executing highlight-reel stoppages and is highly unpredictable, operating at a pace opponents find difficult to keep up with. He entered the ONE Championship cage riding a four-bout losing streak at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream.”
Fight Result
Referee Yuji Shimada put a stop to the flyweight bout between Toquero and Wada at 0:52 of the first round. The Japanese fighter submitted his Filipino opponent via rear-naked choke.
Winning at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream” improved Wada’s professional MMA record to 20 wins, 9 losses, 2 draws and 1 No Contest. On the other hand, Toquero now has 8 wins and 7 losses.
“ONE: Warrior’s Dream” Main Events
In the co-main event of the evening, Nieky “The Natural” Holzken, 34, of Helmond, Netherlands and Cosmo “Good Boy” Alexandre, 36, of Sao Paulo, Brazil battled it out in a ONE Super Series kickboxing contest. The Dutch kickboxer knocked out his Brazilian opponent in the second round.
In the main event, Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 28, of Arsta, Uppsala, Sweden and Tyler McGuire, 32, of Spokane, Washington, United States competed for the vacant ONE Welterweight World Championship. The Swedish contender captured the belt by knocking out his American opponent in the fourth round.
