Malaysia’s Keanu Subba submits Phoe Thaw, shocks Myanmar

Fighting out Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Keanu Subba, 24, entered the ONE Championship cage as an underdog at “ONE: Pursuit of Greatness” as he faced a hometown hero. But this did not stop the Malaysian mixed martial artist as he managed to finish the bout in the first round in his favor.

“ONE: Pursuit of Greatness” took place at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on October 26, 2018. In the ninth bout of the evening, he competed in the featherweight division against Phoe “Bushido” Thaw, 33, of Yangon.

Referee Kemp Cheng put a stop to the featherweight bout between Subba and Thaw at 2:47 of Round 1. The Malaysian contender submitted his Burmese opponent via guillotine.

The Burmese crowd cheered loudly for Thaw from since the hometown hero appeared. There was silence, however, when Subba emerged as the winner but the Yangon native showed sportsmanship, which ONE Championship is known for.

By winning at “ONE: Pursuit of Greatness,” Subba improved his professional MMA record to 7 wins and 3 losses. It was his sixth victory in ONE Championship.

On the other hand, Thaw entered the ONE Championship cage as an undefeated fighter at “ONE: Pursuit of Greatness.” This made Subba the first fighter to defeat the Yangon native.
