Discovery Perlas, University of Luzon win at NBA 3X Philippines 2018 presented by AXA

The winners of the NBA 3X Philippines 2018 presented by AXA received their awards at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on August 26, 2018. Discovery Perlas and a team from the University of Luzon won the Women’s Open and Men’s Open divisions, respectively.

Discovery Perlas is a former women’s national basketball team in the Philippines. Outplaying Team Fast Track, the team was represented by SEA Games silver medalists Joy Galicia and Angeli Gloriani with Enderun Colleges player Ella Rodrigues and UST Tigresses player Jhenn Angeles at the NBA 3X Philippines 2018.

Galicia and Angeles are both from the University of Santo Tomas while Gloriani is from De La Salle University. Rodrigues is from Los Angeles, California.

In the Men’s Open division, the University of Luzon-Dagupan Team A from Pangasinan outlasting their physical match against SAN-C, which is based in Metro Manila. The members of the winning team were Mario Angelito Torio, Reynald Ballesteros, Robert Caasi Jr. and Julius Tiburcio.

The NBA 3X Philippines 2018 is the eighth edition of the annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament featuring men’s and women’s teams and authentic NBA entertainment. The most recent edition drew a large audience that witnessed outstanding competition in the Boys Under 13, Boys Under 16, Boys Under 18, Girls Under 18, Men’s Open and Women’s Open divisions on Aug. 25-26.

North Luzon dominated the annual three-on-three competition as teams that qualified in the Benguet eliminations from August 11-12, 2018 emerged champions in the Boys Under 13, Girls Under 13, Boys Under 16 and Men’s Open divisions.

In the Boys Under 13 division, the Greyhounds of Baguio City defeated Team Palanan of Metro Manila. The members of the winning team were Rieken Espinosa, Dreyxius Castillo, Kyle Patrick Margarata and Adam Floyd Darden.

SLU A players Jaudenes Parone, Dennis De Vera, Manson Lee Cerantes and Francis Almazan from Saint Louis University of Baguio City dominated Braderhud in the Boys Under 16 category. HIMC Monarchs 2 players John Dominic Geli, Jeth Monteleyola, Renzo David Apolonia and Alfon Jazmin of Caloocan edged out the Caloocan Supremos C in the Boys Under 18 finals.

The winner in the Girls Under 18 division was Balon Dagupan, a team of Pangasinan school girls. Regimay Castres, Rosemarie de los Santos, Jane de Vera and Fionna Camangeg overcame their opponents from HIMC Monarchs A of Holy Infant Montessori Caloocan.

The NBA 3X weekend treated passionate Filipino fans to a competitive 3-on-3 tournament featuring men’s and women’s teams and authentic NBA entertainment. A total of 1,200 players, 456 from the Baguio eliminations and 744 from the Metro Manila qualifiers, participated in the preliminary tournaments.

Five-time NBA All-Star Tim Hardaway Sr. and NBA Champion Brian Scalabrine of the Boston Celtics engaged the fans and helped coach a basketball clinic for 20 kids from AXA. In addition, Detroit Pistons Extreme Team showcased their aerial dunks and acrobatic performance.

AXA Philippines was the presenting partner of NBA 3X Philippines 2018 and the official NBA broadcasters for the event were ABS-CBN S+A, Basketball TV, and NBA Premium TV. CloudFone, Gatorade, Nike, Panasonic, Rexona, PLDT and Smart were official partners while SM Mall of Asia an Spalding were the supporting partners.
