Erwan Heussaff, Dyan Castillejo, Gretchen Ho join 1st Tough Mudder Philippines

The first ever Tough Mudder Philippines took place from July 21-22, 2018 at Portofino Amore in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Over 2,000 participants from the Philippines and overseas joined the endurance event series including Filipino celebrities Erwan Heussaff, Dyan Castillejo and Gretchen Ho.

Joining Heussaff, Castillejo and Ho at the Tough Mudder Philippines were Tough Mudder ambassadors Raymond Guttierez, Eduardo Lara, Noel Agra, Christi McGarry, Lahaina Mondonedo and Fabio Ide and Tough Mudder influencers Will de Vaughn, Alex Diaz, Carla Piscoso and George Irineu. Filipino celebrities Marc Nelson, Erwan Heussaff, Nico Bolzico, Vince Velasco, Moritz Gastl and Luis Hontiveros participated, as well.

The event marked the first collaboration between Tough Mudder, Inc. and Proactive Sports Management, a sports events company known for staging various marathons and mass participation events. Founded in 2012, Proactive Sports Management is better known for its highly successful ColorManila Run series.

“Yes, it has been fantastic,” Tough Mudder Senior Operations Manager for International Events Nathan Bassett said of the first ever Tough Mudder Philippines event. “I think the ColorManila team and Proactive have really done a good job pulling off an amazing event.”

Bassett acknowledged that it had been a challenging week with all the rains and the flooding. Still, Proactive Sports Management and the ColorManila team were able to put on a fantastic event, he said.

“I see that the participants are all having a great time,” Bassett said. “Today we got a taste of having the 5K and the half (8K) and we’re hoping to bring the full (16K) over here and bring the best obstacles that we’ve got for a full event.”

According to Proactive Sports Management vice president Justine Cordero, Tough Mudder is all about teamwork and “exceeding, challenging your own self, and overcoming your fears.” She pointed out, “The Filipinos really know how to have fun.”

“We’re very happy that we have a lot of mudders today who joined,” Cordero said. “I’ve seen the participants enjoying themselves as they went through the obstacles, and they’re also helping each other out.”

Tough Mudder Philippines was sponsored by Cobra, Merrell Philippines, Black Arrow Express, Pretty Huge Obstacles, Vivere Hotel, Crystal Clear, Anytime Fitness, Snippet Media, and Manila Times. The next Proactive Sports Management event will be the Yakult 16-miler, which will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Grounds in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on October 7, 2018.
