The University of the Philippines Men’s Basketball Team (UPMBT) continues to reap support from different sectors. STATS, an active apparel company under Januarius Holdings Inc. (JHI), agreed to finance the UP Fighting Maroons’ foreign basketball training for the second straight year.

In 2017, the UPMBT has their basketball training in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the time, the team received support from JHI, led by its chairman and CEO JJ Atencio.

On July 19, 2018, a send-off lunch for the team and its coaches at Mesa in SM Mega Mall in Ortigas, Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila. It was hosted by an avid UP supporter and the NowheretogobutUP Foundation (NTGBUP), a volunteer group of UP alumni supporting UP’s varsity programs, together with the team managers Ags Uvero and Dan Palami.

On July 21, 2018, the UPMBT will fly to Serbia for their next basketball training. The team will take part in a two-week long basketball camp in Novi Sad for intensive training drills that includes sessions with players from different Serbian ball clubs.

The UPMBT members will be back in August 2018 to prepare for the upcoming University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 81, which will be hosted by National University. The next season of the annual collegiate sports event will start in September 2018.

Established in 1938, the UAAP is an athletic association of eight universities in Metro Manila, Philippines. The University of the Philippines and National University’s fellow member schools are Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Far Eastern University, the University of the East and the University of Santo Tomas.
