Zhao Zhi Kang
From the desert region of Inner Mongolia, Chinese Sanda Champion Zhao Zhi Kang, 23, has competed in two ONE Championship bouts. His third outing in the promotion is scheduled on July 7, 2018 at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens” at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China.
At “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” Zhao will compete against Meas Meul, 28, of Cambodia at a catchweight of 68 kg. It will be the fifth bout of the evening.
At the age of 15, Zhao began training in martial arts in Inner Mongolia. He was inspired by martial arts heroes including Jackie Chan, Jet Li and the late Bruce Lee.
In 2012, Zhao made his professional mixed martial arts debut, amassing an excellent record by competing all across China. This brought him to the bright lights of ONE Championship.
On November 10, 2017, Zhao made a successful ONE Championship debut by submitting Thai Rithy, 23, of Cambodia via rear-naked choke at “ONE: Legends of the World” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. But when Zhao returned to the cage on March 24, 2018 at “ONE: Iron Will” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, he was submitted by Waqar Umar, 27, of Pakistan via rear-naked choke.
Zhao is driven by the competitive spirit of martial arts. He aims to achieve glory on the global stage as he competes in ONE Championship for the third time at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” which will be headlined by Yodcherry Sityodtong, 19, of Thailand and Kai Ting “Killer Bee” Chuang, 23, of Chinese Taipei for the inaugural ONE Super Series Kickboxing Atomweight World Championship.
“World-class martial arts makes a triumphant return to the beautiful city of Guangzhou with another spectacular event,” ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated. He added that Yodcherry and Chuang will be joined by “several of the very best martial arts talent from China and the world.”
